The February Update

I am happy to announce that Notable Beginnings now has a low brass specialist on staff.  Please welcome Chris Schmidt to our ranks!  Look for his bio coming soon on the “Our Teachers” page.  Chris has extensive experience working with bands and doing low brass sectionals as well as private lessons.  If you know anyone looking for brass lessons, please pass along our information!

Chris will also be taking over Dr. Charles Priest’s trumpet studio at the end of the school year, as Dr. Priest will be leaving us.  He has accepted a full-time position at the Baptist Seminary in the library.  He has already passed along his guitar students, and will be leaving us for good at the end of the school year.  We wish him much success!

Please mark your calendars now for our Spring Recital!  It will be held on Saturday, April 24 at 2pm.  (That’s the Saturday between Thunder and Derby.)  The recital this time will be held at Immanuel UCC – the church right across the street from the studio!  I hope this will be the beginning of a great relationship between us and Immanuel!  Please plan to be there!

Students of Ms. Ruthanne Fulton, please don’t forget that she is out of the country for the rest of the month.  We wish her safe travels to Indonesia and back!

Vacation Time!

I hope you’re all enjoying your holiday break.  Don’t forget, lessons resume after the new year – on Monday, January 4!

And as always, please let me know of any wonderful things your students are doing that can be posted here!

New teacher and upcoming recitals!

First, I would like to welcome Ms. Cordia Thompkins to our studio.  Cordia, a recent graduate of UofL’s School of Music, has joined us as a violin teacher.  We are most excited to have her!

Secondly, I’d like to remind everyone of the Fifth Annual Costume Recitals this weekend.  So, on Sunday, Nov. 1, don your Halloween costume one last time and join us at Central Christian Church in beautiful New Albany, IN to see some, um, interesting people play some lovely music!  Recitals are at 2pm and 4:30pm, with receptions following both.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

A few other notes – I’m happy to report that the tree blocking some parking spaces has finally been taken care of.  Also, my husband and I are having a boy (so they say)!

The Notable Blog

Welcome to our new website, and our hopefully weekly blog updates!  Since I don’t get to see everyone who comes through our doors at NBMS, I hope to use this as a medium to connect with everyone.

As you know, I am a musician, not a web designer.  So please have patience with me as I learn to update this thing and make our website a bit sparklier!

I’d like to ask everyone’s help in keeping this blog updated.  I want to publish all our students’ wonderful achievements, from being in the school play to ratings at solo/ensemble contest.  So please send me email ( and keep me posted on what your fantastic kids are up to.  I’ll be happy to post information about concerts, plays, recitals, etc., and general bragging things, too!

Speaking of general updates, if you haven’t heard my news yet, let me tell you!  My husband James and I are expecting our first child around March 9, 2010.  (Just in time for our second wedding anniversary and James’ 30-somethingth birthday!)  I’m not looking too pregnant yet, but I’m sure it’ll be popping out any day now!

So, now to see if this thing works or I’ve totally broken it…
